Montana in the Movies

Just watched New in Town, a movie with Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. Don’t know where it was filmed, but there are two scenes of snow blowing across the prairie with grain elevators in the middle distance. Classic Eastern Montana prairie scene in Winter.

Ms. Zellweger, desperately driving somewhere she was never going to get to, dodged a cow on a two-lane road and ended up with her car nose first in a snowbank. I myself have come close to dying, twice, in just such a scenario. The angels came to my/our rescue both times – good karma or just not my/our time. Renee’s angel was, who else?, Mr. Connick, Jr., responding to her red flag of hope, a filmy nightie on a pole.

Have I mentioned that Winter kills at least one someone every year in Montana, and that it’s one of the reasons I exited stage left at the first opportunity? Well, now you know.
